Serena Joy is a spoken word artist and motivational speaker from New Castle
County, Delaware. Her goal is to use poetry as a tool to empower our youth. Thus far in
her journey, Serena has been a featured poet at various venues such as weddings, book
signings, festivals, school assemblies and more. She’s traveled across country to places
such as San Diego, Houston, Chicago and New York City performing at the Mic is
Open, The Next Up Tour and World Tuned Radio. She has also been in the Stage plays
Crazy by Sharpe Turns World Productions and For Colored Girls by L. Arnold
Productions. Her accolades so far include winning the Fighting Cancer with Poetry World
Wide Poetry Contest in 2015, and winning first place at the Delta Sigma Theta Social
Poetry Slam. Most recently she has received the honor of being noted as Poet Laureate
from Sharp Turns Productions Community Awards, while also winning first place at
the GoddSlammit Poetry Slam in March 2017. Her poetry has been publicly noted by
Philadelphia poet Lindo Yes saying, “Serena Joy’s poetry is creating new African
American folklore while telling us why the cage bird sings,” while Black Girl Fly
Magazine called her the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic. As she continues to pursue her
